Twenty books later, Callan is still clipping articles, surfing the web, calling agents, talking to union executives interviewing agents, actors, writers and directors and passing on her research so that artists in every phase of their careers can learn from other's journeys.
Ms. Callan is a past member of the board of directors of Screen Actors
Guild and a member of both The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
and The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Callan's acting career began in school plays in Texas and has continued through off-Broadway, films and television. Her big break came with her first film, "Joe," in 1971. Her portrayal of Peter Boyle's subservient wife brought her glowing reviews in The New York Times. Other memorable film appearances include "A Touch of Class" with Glenda Jackson and George Segal, "American Gigolo" with Richard Gere and "The Onion Field" with James Woods. Upcoming films for Callan include indies, "Devious Beings" and "Border to Border."
Her most visible television role was playing Superman's mom on ABC's series, "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman." Callan's 'mothering' career, in addition to her own three grown children, includes Michelle Pfeiffer in "Frankie & Johnnie", Tom Hanks in "Bosom Buddies" and Geena Davis in"Sara."
A regular on three network television series and a guest star in scores of television movies, mini-series and episodes, Ms. Callan's latest appearances include "Kate Brasher," "The Fugitive," Lifetime's "The Division," the WB's "Dawson's Creek" and an appearance on "Family Law" playing the mother of a child molester. She plays a recurring role on "King of the Hill," as Hank's mom, Tillie.

Ambition," "Ike" and the ABC-TV miniseries "Mr. Murder," starring Stephen
Baldwin. Callan's latest theatre appearance was in the world premiere of
"The Presentment" at The Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles.
